BCSO, NMSP investigate crash involving deputy on I-40 EB near Carnuel

BERNALILLO COUNTY, NM — All eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 were blocked Sunday morning near Carnuel after a crash that injured a BCSO deputy, according to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.

The collision took place on eastbound I-40 at Exit 170 to New Mexico State Road 333 heading into the city. It was first reported by the sheriff’s office at 7:28 a.m.

Details are limited, but officials indicated that a deputy’s vehicle was hit from the back by another vehicle.

The deputy, who suffered unspecified injuries, was taken to an area hospital but was expected to make a recovery.


A section of the eastbound interstate remained closed for nearly two hours during the emergency response and initial investigation, which was conducted by BCSO deputies and New Mexico State Police.
