BERNALILLO COUNTY, NM — Two people, including a BCSO deputy, were injured in a wreck Monday afternoon on New Mexico State Road 333 near east Albuquerque, reports KOAT.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened on the eastbound highway at about 3:33 p.m.

A preliminary investigation shows the deputy was driving eastbound in a marked BCSO vehicle when his vehicle was hit by a westbound vehicle whose driver was trying to turn left. The impact of the crash caused the BCSO vehicle to flip, leaving the deputy trapped until he was removed from the wreckage by an off-duty firefighter.

The deputy, who sustained a hand laceration, was transported to an Albuquerque hospital, along with the second driver, who suffered back and neck pain.

A section of NM-333 was shut down in both directions as the APD’s traffic unit conducted an investigation.
