ALBUQUERQUE, NM — At least one person was seriously hurt Sunday evening due to a crash and vehicle fire on Interstate 40 in far west Albuquerque, according to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.
The collision occurred on the eastbound lanes of I-40 at mile marker 146, in the West of Westland area. Deputies responded to the scene shortly before 7:16 p.m.
While officials have not disclosed the sequence of events leading up to the crash, at least one vehicle caught fire, and “great bodily harm” was reported.
Multiple eastbound lanes of I-40 were closed to traffic at the time of the initial report, with a complete highway shutdown anticipated.

As of this writing, the sheriff’s office has not released additional information regarding the cause of the crash, the vehicles involved, or the conditions of those injured.
