Authorities arrest teen driver for deadly hit-and-run near Academy Hills Park

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – A 13-year-old allegedly struck and killed a bicyclist near Academy Road Northeast and Moon Street Northeast on May 29, 2024, according to KOAT.

The 13-year-old was reportedly driving a stolen car when they hit Scott Habermehl, 63, as he was riding a bicycle to work at Sandia National Laboratory. Habermehl died in the collision.

Police gathered video evidence of the crash and an audio recording of the teens planning to hit the victim.

Authorities arrested the 13-year-old and charged them with an open count of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, leaving the scene of an accident involving great bodily harm or death, and unlawful firearm possession.

A 15-year-old is facing the same charges. An 11-year-old was also involved in the incident. Prosecutors are trying to find out what they can charge them with.

Police are still trying to locate the 11-year-old and 15-year-old.

Wreck reported on US 82 near Cloudcroft

CLOUDCROFT, NM – A crash was reported on US 82 near mile marker 16 on Tuesday, according to NMRoads.

The incident was reported to authorities around 9:20 a.m.

It is unclear if anyone was hurt in the collision.

Auto accident disrupts traffic on US 70 near Holloman AFB

HOLLOMAN AFB, NM – According to NMRoads, a crash blocked traffic on US 70 at mile marker 184 on Tuesday.

Emergency crews were called to the scene around 11:29 a.m.

Officials have not provided additional details.
