ALBUQUERQUE, NM — An Albuquerque Police Department officer was hospitalized early Friday after a crash in Albuquerque’s Eagle Ranch area, according to KRQE.

The incident occurred at the corner of Eagle Ranch Road and Irving Lane.

A preliminary investigation indicates the officer was traveling through the intersection when his vehicle was hit by a 28-year-old male driver.

The suspect told authorities he had just left the Dirty Bourbon bar and had consumed three beers. He also claimed he was engaged in a dispute with a female passenger when she grabbed the wheel and caused the crash.

APD said the suspect, who displayed clear signs of intoxication, was found to have been driving well over the posted speed limit. He was later charged with “DWI with great bodily harm.”

The officer was taken to a nearby hospital with what appeared to be a broken leg and a neck injury. No updates on his condition have been released.
