Alleged drunk driver arrested for deadly crash in Lea County

LEA COUNTY, NM – Authorities have made an arrest in connection with a fatal wreck last month in Lea County, KFOX TV reported.

53-year-old Pedro Duran Bustillos of Las Cruces was charged with vehicular homicide for the March 5 crash on New Mexico State Road 18 near Hobbs. Court records indicated that Duran Bustillos was driving a 2015 GMC that was involved in a head-on collision with a 2010 Chrysler Sebring at about 11:24 p.m. A man in the Sebring was killed.

Duran Bustillos was taken to the Covenant Health Hospital, where Hobbs police officers reported that he had allegedly told the medical staff he had been drinking. A blood test revealed Duran Bustillos blood alcohol level on the night of the crash was over the legal limit. He was arrested after a warrant was issued.

New Mexico court records showed Duran Bustillos had previously pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide/bodily injury after a 2002 crash and was sentenced to four years.

Delays reported following accident in South Valley

BERNALILLO COUNTY, NM – Traffic was slowed in a section of the South Valley following a crash on Wednesday morning.

According to a traffic alert at 9:25 a.m. from the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office, eastbound Bridge Boulevard was closed at Goff Boulevard as a result of the crash.

Drivers were advised to use caution in the area and expect delays.

Driver charged with DWI after crashing into building in Clayton

CLAYTON, NM – The Clayton Police Department released details of an alleged drunk driving accident that occurred early Saturday morning.

Police said a driver who was going too fast crashed their vehicle into a building at the corner of 1st Street and Main Street. The driver was arrested for DWI.

No injuries were reported for the driver and three passengers in the vehicle.
