Accident closes section of I-40 WB in central McKinley County

MCKINLEY COUNTY, NM — Emergency responders were called to a crash Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 40 near Continental Divide, according to NM Roads.

The collision took place on the westbound lanes at mile marker 46, about a mile east of County Road 27 and 20 miles east of Gallup. It was first recorded in the NM Roads map index at 1:27 p.m.

Officials have not provided information regarding the circumstances of the wreck, but all westbound lanes in the area were shut down. Motorists were asked to reduce speed and watch for stopped or slowed traffic. Minor delays were expected.

By 3:00 p.m., more than an hour and a half later, no updates have been released, suggesting an extended crash clearance time.

No injuries have been confirmed as of this writing.
