$7 million settlement reached for crash that killed toddler in Deming

DEMING, NM – According to KOAT, the Luna County Commission approved a $7 million settlement for a wreck involving a deputy that killed a 14-month-old toddler at NM-11 and Voorhies Rd on Nov. 11, 2023.

Paul Garcia, 31, was responding to an active burglary call in an LCSO patrol vehicle going around 130 mph when he slammed into another vehicle.

A 14-year-old toddler died in the collision. The driver of the car Garcia hit, Isabella Hernandez, was seriously injured.

Garcia has since been terminated from the Luna County Sheriff’s Office. He is facing felony charges for the crash, and his trial will begin in August.

Emergency crews respond to crash near Highland Park

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – First responders were called to the scene of an accident at I-25 NB and Central Ave SE on Thursday, according to KKOB Traffic.

Dispatchers received calls concerning the incident around 5:44 p.m.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.

Auto accident disrupts traffic on NM 333 in Bernalillo County

BERNALILLO COUNTY, NM – According to BCSO, a crash blocked traffic on NM 333 near Mountain Valley Rd on Friday.

First responders were called to the scene around 11:13 a.m.

Officials have not released more details.
