4 students, 2 adults hurt in school bus crash at NE Artesia intersection

EDDY COUNTY, NM — A multi-injury crash involving a Lovington school bus was reported last Thursday, October 6, in northeast Artesia, according to New Mexico State Police.

Officials responded to the scene at the intersection of East Richey Avenue and North Haldeman Road at around 2:40 p.m.

No details have been shared regarding the events leading up to the wreck, but the school bus and a commercial motor vehicle were involved.

Of the 40 students and one adult on board the school bus, four students were sent to a local hospital for minor injuries.

Both drivers suffered injuries believed to be non-life-threatening and were taken to the hospital via private conveyance.

It remains unclear at this time whether any charges are expected to be filed.

NMSP’s Crash Reconstruction Team was handling the investigation.

Parts of Haldeman Road and Richey Avenue were closed for multiple hours in the aftermath.
