TORRANCE COUNTY, NM — A series of collisions Wednesday afternoon closed a section of westbound Interstate 40 near east Moriarty, reports KOAT.

The accidents happened on the westbound lanes at mile marker 203, near Lake Estancia Historical Marker, and in an area west of Clines Corners.

It was unclear what circumstances led up to the incidents, but New Mexico State Police responded to three crashes in the area.

NMSP said one collision involved a commercial motor vehicle, and according to the New Mexico Department of Transportation, one other wreck involved three semi-trailers.

All westbound lanes of I-40 were blocked off near Clines Corners as a result.
