LUNA COUNTY, NM — Three people died Saturday night after an SUV towing another SUV both overturned off Interstate 10 near Deming, reports KVIA.

New Mexico State Police responded to the scene on the eastbound lanes in an area west of the city, shortly after 10:00 p.m.

According to investigators, a Nissan SUV carrying four people was being towed by a GMC Yukon SUV when the two vehicles traveled off the roadway and rolled.

Three occupants in the Nissan were ejected in the crash and pronounced deceased at the scene. All three were Texas residents, including two El Paso men aged 53 and 41, as well as a 27-year-old Anthony man. Officials noted the deceased victims were not wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Nissan was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where their condition remains undisclosed.

Police said four occupants in the Yukon also suffered injuries and were transported to a hospital by ground ambulance.

An investigation remains in progress.
