SAN JUAN COUNTY, NM — Two Farmington residents died Sunday evening after their vehicle crashed off of New Mexico State Road 539 in Navajo Dam, according to KRQE.
New Mexico State Police said the fatal incident occurred near Navajo Lake State Park at around 6:00 p.m.
Preliminary details indicate Rachel Kahwajy, 31, was behind the wheel of the vehicle when she approached a tight curve in the roadway. The driver was unable to negotiate the curve, resulting in the vehicle traveling over the cliff.
Kahwajy and her passenger, a 53-year-old man identified as Glenn Taketa, were both pronounced deceased at the scene.
No further information has been released at this time, as an investigation by NMSP remains in progress.
