2 killed, 2 young girls critically hurt in Grants crash involving DWI suspect

CIBOLA COUNTY, NM — Two people were killed Wednesday night after a multi-vehicle wreck that seriously injured two young girls in Grants, reports KOB.

Grants Police said the fatal crash happened at Roosevelt Avenue and Elm Drive, at around 9:20 p.m.

A preliminary investigation indicates officers were pursuing a 31-year-old male driver who was seen swerving and traveling at high speeds against oncoming traffic. The pursuit came to an end when the suspect hit three other vehicles.

Officials said a 34-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman in one vehicle were pronounced deceased at the scene.

A 10-year-old girl and a 6-year-old girl who were passengers in the same vehicle suffered serious injuries. They were transported to an Albuquerque hospital and listed in critical condition.

The driver of the striking vehicle was arrested at the site of the crash and is expected to be charged a third time for Driving While Intoxicated.
