2 GCU students killed in collision on I-40 near Arizona border

NEW MEXICO – Two Grand Canyon University students were killed in a single-vehicle crash near the Arizona-New Mexico border on Saturday night.

According to a report by CBS 5, the collision took place along I-40 shortly after 11 p.m..

Police say the victims were heading east on the interstate when the driver drifted left of center and struck a guardrail.  The vehicle then came to rest in one of the lanes of travel, where it was hit by an oncoming semi-truck.

Both occupants in the vehicle, Chelsea Nicole Valladares, 21, and Kelli Ingle, 22, suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
