LEA COUNTY, NM — Two West Texas men were killed Thursday, April 28, in a chain-reaction crash on New Mexico State Road 176 near west Eunice, according to Your Basin.
The fatal collision occurred on a span of the highway just west of the city, at around 4:30 p.m.
New Mexico State Police arrived at the scene to find three involved vehicles, including two pickup trucks and a tractor-trailer.
Authorities learned the two men were in a Chevrolet pickup truck that was stopped behind the semi. Some time later, the Chevrolet was rear-ended by a Ford F-350 pickup truck, which pushed the victim vehicle into the back of the semi.
Both the driver and the passenger of the Chevrolet were pronounced deceased at the scene.
An investigation remains in progress, but police do not believe alcohol contributed to the crash.
