CLOVIS, NM – Two people were killed early Sunday morning when a semi-truck collided with a vehicle in Clovis, according to KFDA.
The fatal wreck took place at the intersection of Grand Street and Seventh Street at about 1:42 a.m. An initial investigation found that the driver of a Cadillac was traveling eastbound on Seventh Street at a high rate of speed when the car crossed over a concrete median into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a slow-moving semi.
Responding Clovis police officers found the Cadillac fully engulfed in flames with two occupants still inside the front passenger compartment. Though the fire was extinguished, both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.
A third occupant of the vehicle was ejected and transported to Plains Regional Medical Center before being transferred to a hospital in Texas for further treatment.
The driver of the semi-truck was not injured and evaluated on the scene.
Anyone with information about the crash was asked to call the Clovis Police Department.
