1 teenager dead, 1 injured after vehicle crashes in San Marcos area

SAN MARCOS, NM – A teenager was killed in a single-vehicle wreck in Santa Fe County on Saturday evening, authorities said.

According to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, the crash took place in the vicinity of Cedar Road and Southfork Road in the San Marcos area.

A preliminary investigation determined that a vehicle was traveling more than 100 miles per hour northbound on Southfork Road when the driver failed to negotiate a slight left hand curve in the roadway. The vehicle entered a field and crashed, causing it to roll several times.

Deputies responded to the scene and found that two boys had been ejected. One of them, a 15-year-old passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 16-year-old driver was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

The sheriff’s office said a search warrant was obtained and the driver’s blood was taken. Charges are pending. It was reported that the teen who died was a student at Santa Fe High School.

Truck accident causes closure on I-40 near Route 66 Casino

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – An accident involving a semi-truck restricted traffic along a stretch of Interstate 40 in Albuquerque late Saturday night.

In a traffic alert issued at 11:36 p.m., the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office said the crash caused eastbound Interstate 40 to be reduced to one lane near the Route 66 Casino. No major injuries were reported.

The BCSO released an update about an hour later saying that all lanes had been reopened.

Injuries reported in 3-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 285

CHAVES COUNTY, NM – The Chaves County Sheriff’s Office released details of a multi-vehicle accident that occurred last week.

The sheriff’s office said three vehicles were involved in the March 2 wreck on U.S. Highway 285, and two of the vehicles rolled over. Minor injuries were reported.

Both the northbound and southbound lanes of the highway were shut down during the accident response. All lanes were reopened by 11 p.m.
