ALBUQUERQUE, NM — One person was taken to a hospital Wednesday after a pedestrian crash near The University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, reports KRQE.

The incident occurred on Central Avenue Southeast at Columbia Drive Southeast, in an area just south of Johnson Field. It was first reported by KRQE shortly after 5:00 p.m.

According to the Albuquerque Police Department, a pedestrian was crossing the road outside of a designated crosswalk when they were struck by an Albuquerque Rapid Transit bus heading eastbound.

First responders transported the victim to an area hospital where their condition remains undisclosed.

Authorities said the victim glanced at the road before crossing but did not see the approaching bus, which had been traveling at about 20 miles per hour.

APD continues to investigate. At this time, speed and alcohol are not believed to have contributed to the crash.
