1 killed in hit-and-run crash with stolen vehicle near SW Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — One person died early Friday morning after a two-vehicle wreck on Dennis Chavez Boulevard in southwest Albuquerque, reports KRQE.

The fatal collision occurred between Unser Boulevard and 98th Street, in the city’s Southwest Mesa area, at about 3:00 a.m.

According to the Albuquerque Police Department, a Hyundai was heading eastbound on Dennis Chavez Boulevard at the same time a Buick sedan was westbound. It was unclear which vehicle veered out of its lane, but both collided head-on.

The driver of the Hyundai was pronounced deceased on the scene, confirmed officials.

The male driver of the Buick fled the scene on foot before authorities arrived. Officers later learned the Buick had been reported stolen.

At this time, the APD continues to investigate the crash and search for the fleeing driver.
