SAN JUAN COUNTY, NM — A 24-year-old woman was killed last Saturday in a crash that injured four others on U.S. Highway 64 near Bloomfield, reports KRQE.
New Mexico State Police said the fatal wreck occurred on a span of highway east of the city, on October 29, shortly before 4:00 p.m.
A preliminary investigation shows the young woman was behind the wheel of a Nissan Altima when the car veered into the opposite lane and hit an oncoming Toyota Tundra pickup truck head-on.
The driver of the Nissan was pronounced deceased on the scene. Investigators said she did not appear to have been wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.
Four others, including the 58-year-old driver of the Tundra and their three passengers, were transported to a local hospital. The severity of their conditions has not been made public.
An investigation by NMSP remains ongoing, but officials said they have reason to believe alcohol contributed to the wreck.
