GRANT COUNTY, NM — A 35-year-old driver died late last Friday, April 7, after a rollover ATV crash on New Mexico State Road 35 near Silver City, reports KRQE.
New Mexico State Police said the fatal accident occurred on the a span of NM-35 northeast of the city, at about 11:00 p.m.
Preliminary details indicate the victim was operating a Polaris Sportsman all-terrain vehicle when it overturned. Both the operator and a female passenger, 39, were ejected as a result.
The Office of the Medical Investigator pronounced the operator deceased at the scene.
First responders had the female passenger airlifted to an area hospital. At this time, no updates on her condition have been released.
NMSP continues to investigate, but alcohol is believed to have been a factor. Authorities also noted that neither occupant was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
