ALBUQUERQUE, NM — One person was seriously injured Saturday afternoon when they were hit by a driver on Central Avenue in east Albuquerque, reports KOB4.

Albuquerque Police responded to the scene on the westbound lanes at Utah Street, in the city’s Trumball Village neighborhood. Dispatchers first received the call shortly before 1:30 p.m.

A preliminary investigation shows the victim was cross the westbound road on foot when they were struck by a silver Chrysler sedan.

Medics rushed the victim to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, where the patient was put into surgery.

Officials said the driver remained behind and cooperated with investigators.

The cause of the incident remains unclear at this time, but speed and alcohol are not believed to have contributed.
