ALBUQUERQUE, NM — One person was critically hurt late Thursday night when their all-terrain vehicle collided with a sport utility vehicle in southwest Albuquerque, reports KOB4.

The accident occurred in the area of 98th Street Southwest and Tower Road. Albuquerque Police responded to the scene at about 11:00 p.m.

According to authorities, a driver in an SUV was attempting to make a left turn onto Tower Road from 98th Street. As the SUV turned, its right-front fender was struck by the ATV, causing both ATV riders to eject.

The operator of the ATV, who suffered critical injuries, was rushed to UNMH. The other ATV rider and the driver of the SUV received treatment at the scene for more minor injuries.

At this time, the Albuquerque Police Department continues to investigate the cause of the crash, but the ATV’s speed is believed to have contributed. Neither ATV rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
