CIBOLA COUNTY, NM — One person was confirmed to have died Tuesday morning after a vehicle overturned on Interstate 40 near Milan, reports KOB4.
New Mexico State Police responded to the scene at milepost 79, in an area west of Grants. The accident was first reported by KOB4 at about 9:03 a.m.
Authorities have not released details on the cause of the fatal crash, but all eastbound and westbound lanes of I-40 were blocked during the emergency response.
About two hours later, all westbound lanes were reopened. The eastbound side remained closed, forcing traffic to divert onto New Mexico State Road 122 at milepost 72 and then back onto I-40 at milepost 81.
An investigation was underway.
