LAS CRUCES, NM – Police in Las Cruces responded to two separate pedestrian accidents during an eight hour span from Monday into Tuesday.
According to a Facebook post, the first incident happened Monday night just before 10 p.m. near the 500 block of south Telshor Boulevard. A 54-year-old woman was hit by a Ford F-150 pickup truck in a northbound lane of traffic. Police said the woman had been walking east to west across Telshor Boulevard and was not in a marked crosswalk when she was struck.
The pedestrian was transported to Memorial Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the pickup, a 55-year-old woman, remained at the scene and was cooperative with police.
On Tuesday morning at about 5:30 a.m., police were called to another collision on Triviz Drive just south of Spruce Avenue.
Investigators learned a 74-year-old man was struck by a Chevrolet Cavalier that had just turned south onto Triviz from Spruce Avenue. Preliminary details indicated he was not in a marked crosswalk and was in the roadway just south of the intersection when he was hit.
The victim was airlifted to University Medical Center of El Paso, where he was listed in critical condition.
The driver of the Cavelier, a 67-year-old woman, stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. Neither of the drivers involved was expected to face charges.
ARRIBA COUNTY, NM – Drivers were alerted to a rollover crash affecting traffic in Arriba County on New Year’s Day.
A notification on NMRoads at 10:24 a.m. stated the accident took place on New Mexico 511 northbound, restricting an area from mile marker 8 to mile marker 9.
Emergency crews responded to the scene to clear the crash. Drivers were advised to use extreme caution because black ice may exist in the area. Travel was discouraged.
ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office posted a traffic alert Wednesday night due to a crash in southwest Albuquerque.
The accident, reported at 8:15 p.m., resulted in the closure of northbound Coors Boulevard SW at Malpais Road SW.
Motorists were advised to follow the directions of deputies to get around the crash, or use Isleta Boulevard.
