1 dead, 1 injured in collision involving car and semi in Curry County

CURRY COUNTY, NM – A driver was killed and another injured when their vehicles collided in Curry County last week, according to MyHighPlains.com.

The crash happened Jan. 21 at the intersection of State Street and Wheeler Avenue in Texico at about 9 p.m. The Curry County Sheriff’s Office reported that the driver of a 2017 Cadillac XTS was heading south on State Street and failed to yield at the intersection.

The Cadillac crashed into the side of a 2025 International semi and trailer that was heading westbound on Wheeler Avenue.

The Cadillac driver, a 21-year-old man from Kansas City, Missouri, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck The driver of the semi was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Investigators believe alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the fatal accident.

Interstate 25 closed south of Raton following crash

RATON, NM – An accident was reported to have caused a highway closure in Colfax County late Monday night.

According to an advisory on NMRoads at 10:28 p.m., the crash took place on Interstate 25 southbound at mile marker 443, seven miles south of Raton.

The roadway was shut down while emergency crews were responding to the scene.

Woman identified as victim of fatal wreck in Santa Fe

SANTA FE, NM – Police said they have identified the victim of a fatal crash that occurred in Santa Fe last week.

The Santa Fe Police Department said the woman killed in the Jan. 21 wreck was 27-year-old Guadalupe Arvayo Valenzuela of Santa Fe.

Police were dispatched to the 100 block of Caja Del Rio Road shortly before 5 p.m. following a report of a two-vehicle collision, and found Arvayo Valenzuela dead at the scene.

A male driver in the other vehicle was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The police department’s Traffic Unit and Crime Scene Unit is conducting an investigation into the accident Caja Del Rio Road was closed for several hours as the scene was processed.
