FARMINGTON, NM – New Mexico State Police released additional details regarding a fatal crash on Navajo Route 5 on Tuesday morning, Arizona Central reports.
This is an update to a previous story.
State police identified the two people killed in the accident as Arizona residents: 50-year-old Michael McCraren of Tucson and 28-year-old Hannah Cornelson of Surprise.
Investigators determined that a 27-year-old Surprise man was driving a Maserati eastbound on Navajo Route 5 when he started drifting into westbound traffic. The Maserati then crashed head-on into a Volvo SUV near mile marker 15 at about 10:23 a.m.
Michael McCraren, the driver of the Volvo, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 48-year-old Tucson woman who was his passenger was transported to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque.
Hannah Cornelson, a passenger in the Maserati, was pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital in Farmington. The Maserati driver was hospitalized in Farmington, and state police said charges may be pending against that driver based on the outcome of the investigation.
